Santo Domingo behind the scenes
Visit, with your guide, the "Mercado Modelo". It is one of the oldest markets in Santo Domingo. Originally a market for fruits and vegetables. Today it is a great center for handicrafts. Afterwards you will walk to the "Barrio Chino". Two large and ornate gates usher visitors into Chinatown, as do several bronze statues representing gods and theatrical figures of this ancient culture.
On the city tour you will also visit "Pequeño Haiti". The many small family stores, mostly sheltering from the heat and sudden rain under the colorful umbrellas, fit perfectly into the Caribbean, somewhat chaotic, for Central Europeans to get used to, streetscape.
